On 4 February 1997, together with Nikolay Dobrev,
nominated for Prime Minister, they returned the
mandate for a second cabinet of the Democratic Left.
By this difficult political compromise they saved
the country from civil unrest after the attack on
Parliament of 10-11 January 1997.
